Wrath of the Titans Writer Discusses Live-Action Bleach

Wrath of the Titans screenwriter Dan Mazeau discussed his upcoming projects, including the live-action adaptation of Tite Kubo’s manga Bleach.

Mazeau explained that both getting the rights and the scriptwriting itself were a long process for Bleach: “But early on we set down with Tite Kubo the creator and the publisher of the series, and we had a long meeting, making sure we’re respectful to the property. Nobody wants to, well… Let’s just say that if you enjoyed [the live-action] Dragon Ball Z movie, that’s great, but I thought it was a noble effort that ultimately didn’t succeed. That’s what we’re trying to avoid. We want to make sure this movie lives up to what the manga is.”

He added, “I’m currently working on Bleach and the idea is to set it in Japan and really be respectful to the source material. It’s an amazing story. I’ve been shorthanding it as an ‘action-adventure Sixth Sense,’ but obviously on a bigger canvas than that. So I’m incredibly excited about that. It’s a good one.”

Sony began streaming a 61-second full trailer for the live-action film adaptation of Bisco Hatori’s Ouran High School Host Club romantic comedy manga on Friday. The trailer includes clips of previously announced cast members and highlights the addition of Mariko Shinoda of the Japanese pop group AKB48 and Nichkhun of the Korean group 2PM.

In the manga and the subsequent anime and live-action series adaptations, high school freshman Haruhi Fujioka pretends to be a boy so that she can take part in the wealthy school’s Host Club, to which she owes a large debt. In the upcoming film, love blossoms for Haruhi, but the host club is breaking apart from within, thanks to the appearance of an egotistical female exchange student.

17-year-old actress Haruna Kawaguchi (Yankee-kun to Megane-chanMoshidora) reprises her lead role as Haruhi; it will be the first time that she headlines a feature film.
