Kimura Kaela to release new single, “Mamireru”

Kimura Kaela has announced that she will be releasing her new single “Mamireru” on May 16th!

The title track has already been picked up as the theme song to TV Asahi’s upcoming drama, “Toshi Densetsu no Onna“. Regarding her new single, Kimura commented, “It’s mysterious and I thought it was interesting, so I decided to make it into a single without hesitation.

“Mamireru” will be composed by AxSxE (NATSUMEN), who has worked with Kimura 4 times in the past. Meanwhile, the coupling song, “BMX“, will be composed by Aida Shigekazu, and will feature drums by Fujita Isamu (MO’SOME TONEBENDER).

The limited edition will come with a DVD containing Kimura’s live event, “Onnaku Matsuri“, which was held at the end of last year.

What is the most touching wedding song?

 Recochoku has just revealed its results for its 2011 wedding song ranking!

Coming in first place for the second year in a row is Kimura Kaela’s hit song “Butterfly“, which she wrote for the marriage of a close friend. The song has maintained its popularity since it dominated the digital charts after its release in 2009. Many of the voters left comments such as, “When I get married, I’d like everyone to sing this together” and “I heard this song at a friend’s wedding and cried.”

Second place went to Kobukuro’s song “Silhouette“, the B-side to their 2011 single “Ano Taiyou ga, Kono Sekai wo Terashitsudzukeru You ni.“, and the duo’s first wedding song in nearly seven years. When asked about their choice, voters responded with comments like, “I like how Kobuchi sings so painfully about how a girl feels before she gets married.”

“Evangelion” theme song earned the most royalties in 2010

Copyright collection agency JASRAC has released its annual ranking of songs based on royalty payments, which apply to internet distribution, karaoke machines, and other uses. For 2010, the top song was Takahashi Yoko’s “Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis” (“Cruel Angel’s Thesis”), best known as the theme song of the “Neon Genesis Evangelion” anime series.

The song has always been popular since its release in 1995, but it has seen a resurgence in recent years thanks to the new “Evangelion” movies. In 2010, it continued to be sung frequently at karaoke parlors, and it was also used in many pachinko machines.

The top five songs in terms of royalties collected were:

  1. Takahashi Yoko – Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis
  2. Kimura Kaela – Butterfly
  3. Billy Banban – Mata Kimi ni Koishiteru
  4. EXILE – Futatsu no Kuchibiru
  5. GReeeeN – Kiseki

“Butterfly,” which was frequently used at weddings, ranked #1 in digital distribution royalties, while “Mata Kimi ni Koishiteru” was #1 in karaoke royalties.

Ori Star unveils results for their poll, “What’s your favorite song by your favorite artist?”

Weekly entertainment magazine Ori Star recently announced the results of its latest survey, asking for their fans’ favorite song by their favorite artist.

Arashi top’s track was “Monster”,the theme song to the drama “Kaibutsu-Kun” which stars memberOhno Satoshi. When asked why they chose this song, one fan replied, “I can’t help but love the impact of the song and their cool dancing.” To round off the top three tracks for Arashi, ”Monster” was followed by  “truth” and “Troublemaker”.

Other favorites include Ikimonogakari’s hit song “Arigatou”, which earned three times the number of votes as their debut song, “SAKURA”Tohoshinki’s first song as a two-member unit, “Why? (Keep Your Head Down)”, also ranked highly on the list.

Nominees announced for “McDonald’s TOKIO HOT 100 AWARD”

McDonald’s TOKIO HOT 100” is a music chart radio program on J-WAVE (Every Sunday) in whichCris Peppler is the navigator.  They have also been holding an annual music awards called the “McDonald’s TOKIO HOT 100 AWARD“.  The nominees for the awards were chosen amongst the songs and artists (including both domestic and international) who have been on the “McDonald’s TOKIO HOT 100″ charts during the year.
