Now a recognised award-winning actor, Johnny’s talent Toma Ikuta plays the lead male in his latest film, a movie adaptation of popular girl’s manga series “僕等がいた (Bokura ga Ita)”. A movie looking at the ups and downs of young love, Ikuta says he has learnt a lot from shojo mangas, reports MORE magazine.
“When you look at high school students, you can see that the girls are more mature than the boys. I think I figured out why after reading some shojo mangas. Girls are able to imagine what love is really like, but next to them are a bunch of boys reading ‘Dragonball’ mangas. Of course there’s going to be a difference (laughs).”
The movie’s story depicts the life of a boy and a girl from when they meet in high school, to when they become adults in their 20s. It has been reported Ikuta’s own parents had met in high school and later on got married, so in one sense it is perfectly possible. So what was Ikuta’s love life like in high school?
“I admire couples like my parents and how they fell in love, but… I’ve been doing this job since I was at school so being able to experience it myself was difficult,” he said.
It has been reported Ikuta had said his best memories were the friendships he made in high school.
“We were just a whole bunch of boys doing stupid things. I wasn’t popular with girls, in fact, I think they stayed away from me.
“Some of my best friends at high school included a Kabuki actor, a ballet dancer, and an actor so we’d talk about our work. Like what we’d like to do and stuff… The future that we talked about is like a source of energy for me now to keep moving forward.”
Happily married Oguri Shun was seen recently at a drinking party with his friends. The party was hosted by his close friend, Matsumoto Jun. Ikuta Toma was also in attendance. In total, there were five guys present to congratulate the new groom and also to say farewell to his single life.
However, it seems like the mood wasn’t congratulatory amongst the guys, more like consolatory. Yamada Yu herself was not present, but she did check in frequently on the phone to make sure her husband wasn’t up to any funny business. It will be hard for Oguri to slip out of her grasp now.

Yamada Yu belongs to a very very powerful management agency, and in contrast, Oguri’s agency is a smaller fish in the sea. Even though Oguri is more popular than Yamada in terms of popularity, it seems that his agency is still weary of pissing her agency off. His agency is also very selective about what they chose to leak to the public. Oguri’s image is carefully constructed and the negative press never really have any negative effect on his work offers.
Shun has been FRIDAY’d many times canoodling with beautiful actresses. He was seen going to a love hotel to spending more than 10min alone with another actress in a bathroom together. People just don’t seem to care about his shenanigans off-screen.
Being close friends with Oguri Shun, Matsumoto Jun and Ikuta Toma probably knows a lot of secrets their friend doesn’t want people to know. Ikuta Toma is such good friends with Shun that he confessed on a recent episode of TOKIO’s 5LDK that he hit Shun’s dad over the head in order to shut him up at his birthday party.
Either way, may the happy couple stay together.

This year’s NHK Taiga drama, Taira no Kiyomori, has been suffering from ratings but rumors about next year’s Taiga drama are already simmering. We know Ayase Haruka is going to star in next year’s drama, Yae no Sakura, but rumor has it that NHK is looking to inject some Johnny’s talents in hopes of increasing the ratings.
According to entertainment writer, Kobayashi Shinichi, “NHK thought they’d pull in the ratings with Fukuyama Masaharu as Sakamoto Ryuma, but the average was only 18%. Matsuyama Kenichi is a great actor, but he is not well known amongst the older generation that makes up NHK’s main viewership. There were also no Johnny’s talents to pull in younger viewers. It is already the second year in a row that NHK has a dud in terms of Taiga.
Gou was such a hot mess of a Taiga.”In an attempt to battle failing viewership, NHK has come up with a plan. “It hasn’t been revealed to the public yet, but it’s been decided that the main male actor will be from Johnny’s. Names that came up during production meetings include Sakurai Sho, Ikuta Toma, and Yamashita Tomohisa. If that can’t happen, Mukai Osamu has also been thrown in as a possible contender.”

Johnny’s actor Toma Ikuta helped bring a 源氏物語 (Genji-monogatari) experience to life for 300 students at an event in Tokyo on November 30, reports Mainichi Shimbun and Asahi Shimbun. The Kenzo Noh Theatre held a special event for university students studying Japanese literature, by giving them the chance to experience the 源氏物語 (Genji-monogatari) world. Ikuta, who plays Hikaru Genji in the upcoming movie “源氏物語 ～ 千年の謎 (Genji-monogatari – Sen-nen no Nazo)”, appeared wearing one of his period costumes, and one of the gagaku (Japanese classical music) performers in the film introduced a number of instruments used around the film’s period. It has been reported one of the students had asked Ikuta if he would like to date as many women as Hikaru Genji had. “I…would like to fall in love a lot. I’m amazed at how Hikaru Genji was able to charm so many women,” he said. Afterwards, Ikuta said he was caught off guard with the question. “I’m sweating!!”
