Tiger & Bunny Film to Run in HK, Taiwan, Singapore

Sunrise producer Masayuki Ozaki confirmed on Sunday that his anime studio plans to screen theTiger & Bunny film project in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore simultaneously. He added that other regions (including Europe and the United States) are slated to be added afterwards.

      

Ozaki had just appeared with voice actor Masakazu Morita (Tiger & Bunny’s Barnaby Brooks Jr.) at a Tiger & Bunny Special Talk Show event during the C3 expo in Hong Kong. Two other producers, Kazuhiko Tamura and Chika Matsuirevealed inAnimage magazine on Saturday that the film project as a whole will have new characters, and the second film will have an entirely new story.

The first film from director Yoshitomo Yonetani will open in Japan in September. If possible, Tamura and Matsui would like to release the second film in 2013.

L’Arc-en-Ciel to be 1st Japanese Band to Headline Madison Square Garden

The J-Rock band L’Arc-en-Ciel announced on Wednesday it will perform at Madison Square Garden in New York City on March 25, making it the first Japanese band to headline a concert at the main venue. The concert was originally slated for March 23 at the smaller Theater at Madison Square Garden, but the concert has been pushed back and moved to the larger venue due to high demand.

Those interested in attending the concert can purchase tickets starting on January 28.

The band is playing in New York as part of its “L’Arc-en-Ciel World Tour 2012.” Other locations and dates for that tour include:

  • Hong Kong’s Asia World Expo Arena on March 3
  • Bangkok’s Impact Arena on March 7
  • Shanghai’s Mercedes-Benz Arena on March 10
  • Taipei’s TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall on March 17
  • London’s indigO2 on April 11
  • Paris’ Le Zenith de Paris on April 14
  • Seoul’s Jamsil Gymnasium on May 5
  • Yokohama’s Nissan Stadium on May 12 and 13
  • Osaka’s Universal Studios Japan Open Air Special Stage on May 19 and 20

The world tour follows the band’s 20th L’Anniversary Live tour in Japan. The band previously performed at Otakon in Baltimore in 2004. L’Arc-en-Ciel has performed theme songs for the Fullmetal Alchemist television anime series and the two Fullmetal Alchemist films, Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit, and Rurouni Kenshin, among others.

The band will release its new album BUTTERFLY on February 8 on iTunes.

L’Arc~en~Ciel announces their world tour

Rock band L’Arc~en~Ciel has announced that they will be holding a world tour in 2012!

      

Titled “L’Arc~en~Ciel WORLD TOUR 2012“, the tour will kick off on March 3rd in Hong Kong. The band will then travel to Bangkok, Shanghai, Taipei, New York, London, and Paris, for a total of 7 performances.

The band is expected to perform for approximately 100,000 people for this tour. They will become the first Japanese artist to perform at Madison Square Garden in New York.

More dates are to be announced at a later date.

YUI in Hong Kong

YUI received a warm welcome from fans as she visits Hong Kong to promote her concerts in June.

           

Japanese singer YUI took a trip to Hong Kong today to promote her upcomingYUI Live 2011 Hong Kong ~HOTEL HOLIDAYS IN THE SUN~ concert. The concert will take place at the end of June.


YUI’s promotional event was meant to give fans an opportunity to meet the artist, but a group of dedicated fans waited at the airport to greet the singer. YUI greeted the fans and graciously accepted their warm welcome, gifts and a bouquet of flowers. She bowed deeply and thanked them for their support.

It’s been revealed that the film “Mainichi Ka-san” (“Everyday, Mother”), starring Koizumi Kyoko, will be shown in theatres in Hong Kong and Taiwan starting May 12th and 13th, respectively. In both cases, the film will be shown with Chinese subtitles.

The local posters for the film features an encouraging message regarding the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, and the first week revenue in Hong Kong will be donated to Japan for disaster relief.


The film is the live-action adaptation of a popular manga by Saibara Rieko, and is based on the author’s actual life. The story follows mangaka Saibara (played by Koizumi) and her alcoholic husband Kamoshida (played by Nagase Masatoshi), through their divorce, reunion, and eventually, Kamoshida’s death.

In Japan, the film has been playing in theatres since February 5th, and generating interest partly due to the fact that the two lead actors also used to be married to each other. The film was a box office hit in Japan, drawing over 500,000 viewers.

In Hong Kong, “Mainichi Ka-san” will be shown in 1 theatre (Broadway Cinematheque), but in Taiwan, the film is being released in 17 movie theatres. The anime series based on the manga will start airing this month in Hong Kong, and has already started airing in Taiwan.

YUI to hold her first overseas concert in Hong Kong

Singer-songwriter YUI will be holding her first overseas concert in Hong Kong on June 26th! YUI will host her first concert outside of Japan at the  AsiaWorld Arena, the largest indoor seated venue in Hong Kong; it’s planned to pull in a 7,000-member audience.

             

YUI’s enjoyed a high popularity in Hong Kong because of her 2006 movie, “Taiyo no Uta“; her 2007 album, “CAN’T BUY MY LOVE” landed at the #1 spot on the local HMV ‘Japan・ Korean chart’, and then remained in the Top 3 for 12 consecutive weeks.

YUI was offered to hold a live concert in Hong Kong for awhile, and it seems that local fans will finally get to see their favorite J-pop artist perform on their home turf. YUI plans to sell original charity goods at the concert, the profits from which will be donated towards disaster relief.
