Almost five minutes of behind-the-scenes footage from the live-action film adaptation of Nobuhiro Watsuki’s Rurouni Kenshin manga ran on Japanese television. The video features 22-year-old actor Takeru Satoh (Kamen Rider Den-O, RookiesBeck, Ryōmaden) practicing his moves as the titular samurai. 

The film will open in Japan on August 25.

Kenshin to Fight Live-Action Film’s Characters in New Manga

The May issue of Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine revealed on Wednesday that Nobuhiro Watsuki’s newKenshin manga series, Rurouni Kenshin -Cinema-ban-(Rurouni Kenshin: Cinema Version), will focus on battles fought with characters from the upcoming live-action film.

               

The issue has a feature promoting the “reboot” of theRurouni Kenshin series, although the magazine is not necessarily using the term “reboot” with the English denotation in mind. The new manga series will begin in the next issue of Jump Square on May 2.

The film will open in Japan on August 25. The first half of the new Rurouni Kenshin: Shin Kyoto-Hen anime project just opened in two theaters in December, and the second half isslated to be completed this summer. Viz Media publishes the manga in North America. While Watsuki is working on the new Rurouni Kenshin manga, he is putting his Embalming - The Another Tale of Frankenstein manga on hiatus until fall.

Poster for “Rurouni Kenshin” live-action movie revealed

The poster for the live-action film, “Rurouni Kenshin“, has finally been revealed!

The black-and-white photo was taken by Kurigami Kazumi, a renowned photographer who has won many awards. It was taken to convey the ‘hidden madness’ of the protagonist ‘Kenshin’, a former assassin who vows not to kill anyone after experiencing a personal trauma.

“Rurouni Kenshin” will open in theaters on August 25th. It stars a gorgeous line-up of actors and actresses including Sato TakeruTakei Emi, Aoi Yu, and Kikkawa Koji.

Additionally, the new series of “Rurouni Kenshin -Meiji Kenyaku Romantan-” will start its serialization in the June issue of manga magazine, “Jump Square”

The ZIP!morning television program in Japan aired an exclusive new trailer for the live-action film adaptation of Nobuhiro Watsuki’s Rurouni Kenshin manga on Wednesday.

According to one of theZIP!hosts, production on four versions of this newest trailer with English, Chinese, French, and Spanish subtitles has been approved.

Rurouni Kenshin Manga Series to Return in Japan in May

Manga creator Nobuhiro Watsuki will be resuming his Rurouni Kenshin series for a brief run starting in the June issue of Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine, which will ship on May 2, 2012. The magazine’s advertising describes the samurai manga’s return as a “reboot,” although the magazine may not be using the term with the English denotation in mind. More details will be in upcoming issues of Jump Square.

             

In the meantime, Watsuki is putting his current manga series, Embalming - The Another Tale of Frankenstein, on hiatus as of the March issue of Jump Squaremagazine, which will ship in February. Embalming will return in the fall. This manga has been running in Jump Square since its inaugural issue in 2007.

Keishi Ōtomo’s live-action Rurouni Kenshin film will open in Japan on August 25, 2012. New Rurouni Kenshin Anime’s 1st BD/DVD Volume Titled, Dated

                   

The official website for the new Rurouni Kenshin anime project announced the title and Blu-ray/DVD release date for the first of the anime’s two volumes. Aniplex will ship Rurouni Kenshin: Shin Kyoto-Hen Zenpen Homura no Ori (Rurouni Kenshin: New Kyoto Arc Part I: Cage of Flames) on March 21, 2012. The second volume is slated to be completed next summer. On Friday, the website presented the latest screenshots from the first volume.

The 45-minute first volume will be available on a 6,615-yen (about US$85) Blu-ray Disc or a 5,565-yen (US$71) DVD. The first edition will include an exclusive box illustrated by character designerHiromitsu Hagiwara, a book of storyboards by director Kazuhiro Furuhashi and episode director Hiro Kaburaki, a booklet of production materials, and a randomly distributed filmstrip.

The first volume began a one-week run in two theaters in Tokyo and Osaka on Saturday. The staff held a contest to name the first volume, and the “Homura no Ori” (Cage of Flames) title was selected from over 1,000 entries.

The new anime series remakes the Kyoto story arc of Nobuhiro Watsuki’s original manga and the previous anime adaptation. In particular, it depicts the battle of Kenshin Himura and Makoto Shishio and is told from the point of view of the Oniwabanshū ninja Misao Makimachi.
